Proton VPN 2025: full review, method, security (no-log), Secure Core/Stealth & pricing
Same philosophy: useful facts, official links, nothing you can’t verify. Below: no-log audits, Secure Core, Stealth, WireGuard/OpenVPN, open-source apps, dated pricing, plus router tips.
Our editorial stance
We surface the useful bits, link to canonical pages when details may change (pricing, server lists), and cite official publications when claims are confirmed — so you can verify everything quickly.
Why Proton VPN can make sense in 2025
Proton VPN combines a modern stack (WireGuard, OpenVPN), network protection (NetShield DNS filtering), and features for sensitive contexts: Secure Core (hardened multi-hop) and Stealth (obfuscation). The vendor offers a free tier without ads and paid plans for performance and advanced features. See: NetShield, Secure Core, Stealth, protocols.
Open-source apps & audits
Proton’s apps are open source and undergo independent audits. You can read the overview and linked reports here: proton.me/community/open-source.
No-log policy: independent checks
Proton VPN announced a 4th independent audit of its no-log policy in Aug–Sep 2025 by Securitum, confirming no activity logs or compromising metadata. See the official announcement: no-logs audit 2025. Proton also obtained a SOC 2 Type II attestation in July 2025. The French summary page of the policy is here: no-logs policy.
Secure Core, Stealth & protocols
Secure Core routes traffic through hardened servers (Switzerland, Iceland, Sweden) before exiting, to reduce correlation risks. Stealth disguises VPN traffic to evade blocks and censorship. Proton VPN sticks to well-regarded protocols (WireGuard®, OpenVPN) and documents their properties. Sources: Secure Core, Stealth, protocols.
Servers & locations
Network footprint changes frequently (countries, cities, 10 Gbps uplinks). For a current view and nearby nodes, see Servers and the dedicated France page.

Devices & router configuration
Proton VPN supports major OSes and can run on a compatible router (OpenVPN or WireGuard) to protect your whole home. Technical guides: install on a router, OpenWrt × WireGuard, OpenWrt × OpenVPN.
Quick usage tips
Default to WireGuard for performance; switch to OpenVPN if your environment needs it. Enable Kill Switch and NetShield to reduce exposure (ads, malicious domains). In restricted networks, use Stealth. For stronger privacy (travel, public Wi-Fi), try Secure Core at the cost of some latency. Sources: NetShield, Secure Core, Stealth, protocols.
